Spam Filter Installation
To help our clients cope with the ever-increasing volume of "spam"
(emails containing unsolicited advertisements and sexual content)
Vermont Design Works has created a spam filter that will screen
out a large percentage of unwanted messages.
The way the spam filter works is simple. Each email that is sent
to our servers is subjected to careful testing to see if it has
any of the characteristics typically associated with spam. Each
of these characteristics is given a numerical score. If the total
score for an email goes above a certain number, the email is designated
"spam" and the word "***SPAM***" is automatically
added to the subject line of the email.
In order to make Vermont Design Works spam filter work for you,
you need to tell your email program to put these "***SPAM***"
emails into a separate folder when they arrive. That way, they will
not clutter up your inbox. You can, of course, instruct your computer
to delete them automatically. We do not recommend this, however,
because every now and then legitimate emails – emails from
a listserve that you belong to, for example – get labeled
as spam by mistake. By sending the "***SPAM***" emails
to their own folder, you’ll be able to check through them
in case you are missing an important email that you’ve been
expecting. (Of course, you should empty the "***SPAM***"
folder periodically to make sure that it doesn’t take up too
much memory on your hard drive.)
To set up the spam filter on your own computer, simply click on
the link below for the email program that you use, and you’ll
be taken to detailed instructions.
